READ, PRAY AND LISTEN.

When I started commuting to town from Rongai for work, I swore using these exact same words…’sitawahi panda hizo gari noisy, hata kwa dawa!’ I had to swallow the words sooner than I expected.

Now for those who are not familiar with Rongai nganyas- as they are popularly known- here is the thing, they are not just ear piercing noisy, but they break all rules and I mean all, including the ones they made themselves, they hike prices, and oh! Of course they use alternative routes, which are usually bumpy, like a rough and free version of bouncing castles.

At first I could not just get how people could stand the noises and the recklessness, and trust me people love this nganyas to extent of choosing them over the much cheaper and safer ordinary ones.

I still don’t know at what exact moment my dislike for them ended, but what I know is nowadays, I can’t use any other vehicles but them! Ha! See, people don’t use the vehicles because they love the chaos that comes with them but it’s out of convenience, you get to your destination faster, actually you arrive around 30 minutes faster and the seats are comfy…convenient huh?

Which brings me to this question, convenience at what cost?

By using nganyas, I shows that I cordon the behavior, even if I don’t and no matter how many words I try to justify myself with, I am breaking rules period! This is kind a like what we do spiritually too.

It’s so easy for us to take the easier and faster alternative which always means compromising Gods standards. I know his standards are so high and no human being has ever and will ever be able to keep up with, but still does that mean we ignore and move on, no!

We get so easily swayed by the weight of the world, and move in the wrong direction, under the circumstances this life brings on us. We start well with great convictions and beliefs (like me and nganyas) but we soon forget them when we realize it’s not what the majority stands for.

A good example is this swear word –fuck-(sorry but I have to bring the point home). At first, people used to gape when it was used and if used in movies it would be censored, but right now, it’s a fukin greeting! (See what I did there). Am not surprised that the word is used even in church today, since everyone is using it and it makes you sound bad-ass…why not?

I can’t give all examples but my point is just because everybody is doing it or just because it is convenient doesn’t mean it is right.1 Corinthians 6:12 Paul says Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Then again with the many revelations, prophesy and controversies of what is right and what’s wrong, let’s not forget the many ‘servants of God’ cropping f
rom every corner, it is hard to tell which way to follow.

The bible says in John 8:32 You shall know the truth and it shall set you free, in the midst of the many voices, there is one truth, we've all heard it at one point, we either ignored it, or it was mixed up with the other noises, so we missed it! The only truth out there is in the most famous book, the BIBLE!

To know the truth you have to read it…all of it, not just some parts you feel suits you! That way no matter how many version of it you hear, you will always be able to tell the counterfeit! The easiest way is always full of regrets so they say…in this context, is it? I mean all you have to do is read, pray and listen!

If you managed eight years of primary school or its equivalent…then this should be like sipping coffee! Plus the grace is and will always be sufficient! And every simple act, including the vehicles we use, should always point to the truth!

I won’t stop using nganyas, not because I want to, but because I have too, but it will always remind me of how easily I can get swayed by the things of the world, each time I get into one I will pray that I don’t  lose track on godliness.
