Dear non-creatives!
The creative space is a very complicate, underrated and misunderstood space ever. The most annoying bit of it is how people_ especially those who have no clue whatsoever_ assume that creating is an easy job, anyone can do it. People just don't understand how some clown with huge headsets would gaze at a grey screen for almost six hours straight and only come up with a 45 second video...!
I can't blame them though, one of our creative super powers is making difficult work look simple...na haturingi! What you probably don't know is the hundreds of layers one has to work with to come up with just a second out of the 45 seconds. Funny enough the simpler the animation, the more the layers!
Creativity has its up and down moments, sometimes its fully there and other times your brain is just a buzz... the worst part about this is that there is nothing you can do about it. When you try to force it, you only end up creating stuff that you don't like and because you don't like it, you start doubting your creativity which consequently makes you depressed!
You probably don't know that when the creativity is at its peek, we want to use it as much as we can because those days are quite rare in our world. We hate being interrupted during this time... how we wish you would keep those 'brilliant' ideas to yourself, but we cant tell you because when we do, we are told...'learn to accept corrections' worst case scenario you might end up getting a warning letter for being rude...Lord!
Every creative has one area that they are really good at, and they know it! They might be good in other areas, but there is just that one area where they will give 101%. Its enough for you to give them the role, and let them do their thing, forcing Adobe Illustrator on someone who wants to use Adobe In design is just plain torture, you have no idea! Forcing someone to finish off work started by another creative... double torture! I mean just because we both use Adobe After effects, doesn't mean our style is the same!
Every creative has their own muse_although deadlines is a common muse to most of us_, we have no blue print, or a text book which we all follow, telling us to create something that looks exactly like someones else work is the biggest insult you can ever throw at a creative, its even worse than comparing us to other people! Give a chance to put our voice to our work, that's how we communicate best... trying to fit us into the same box as other creatives means you shutting us up!
We don't watch YouTube for fun, for us every creation is a like a lecture to us, we don't physically take notes, but our brains are never asleep. We draw our inspiration from appreciating others work, what you call wasting time on YouTube, is actually value added time in our world!
People call us sensitive, but do you know when we work on a project we give our all, so be nice when commenting on them, because its not just our hands that will be on the chopping board but our, brains_which does most of the work_ our hearts and all our energy. So be nice!
We put a lot of our time on our work, that's the only way to achieve near perfection, its not very kind to tell us to get a life...what do you mean?... creating is our life! We are not 9-5 oriented, our hours depend on our creativity level. That extra hour we put in is not because we have nothing better to do...what do you mean? creating is everything!
Lastly, please pay creatives! Instagram likes don't pay our rent!
