When I got my job in NIBS earlier this year, I was not sure
of anything. I knew a lot was expected of me but I did not know what to expect
from NIBS. I had no clue whatsoever how I would stand in front of eager
knowledge stricken young persons and what I would say to them. I had no idea how
I was supposed to control the 20 something year olds without tripping…but, like
I keep saying, sometime we do not know what we to do but we do it anyway.

At first I thought I was solely there to teach, speak and be
heard, command and direct, sit back and let the work be done…after all my staff
ID said, Lecturer! Well, shock on me! For the past nine months, I have done
more learning than teaching, I have listened more, I have been directed and I
have had to get up and get my hands dirty on more than one occasion, but most
of all I have grown.
In short, my times in NIBS has made this year the most
profitable year ever. Sure there were times when I wanted to be anywhere else
but Nibs, times when I hated everything starting from my office, my colleagues
my bosses the students even the ten o’clock tea, days when I saw no point
waking up at four and sleeping at 11, missing lunch and using every spare time
to prepare for classes and listening to my students. I have cried and felt
useless, vented, cursed, shouted, whispered…I even drafted a resignation letter
which I looked at every time I felt low, resolve to print it and send then
forget about it until I got pissed off again…ha!

So indeed it has not been a smooth ride, but a worthwhile
one I dare say. I asked God to give me a reason everyday to wake up and go to work;
he gave me about 250 reasons…my students. A big part of my life revolves around
them and I am glad to be associated with such an eager dynamic team. Asked to
re -live 2015, I would do it exactly the same, including the rough, bad, ugly
days! For through them God taught me to be a better me!
